Why did you decide to work for Toni and Guy: I knew that Toni and Guy had one of the best education programs and I wanted to improve my cutting skills. I thought I would join Toni and Guy just for the education and then leave to do my own thing. But I learned so much about being a professional hairstylist that I fell in love with the Toni and Guy education program and the salon.
Did you always want to be a hairdresser: It started as just a hobby. In high school I would cut my friends hair in the washroom. Then one of my friends suggested I try hairdressing as a career and I just went for it.
What do you enjoy most about being a hairstylist: I love making people feel good. It is amazing how a great haircut makes someone feel really good about themselves. You can see it in their face after you have finished styling their hair. It is an amazing feeling to know that you can make someone feel that way.
What are you doing when you are not cutting hair: I love to travel. I am always trying to save enough money to travel to another country. My favorite place so far has got to be Capetown. London is also amazing. I think I want to do France and Italy next.
What is the most popular style that you are seeing this summer: Definitely short haircuts for women. It is interesting because usually I cut more short haircuts in the winter, however this summer it seems everyone wants a short edgy low-maintenance haircut. I think it is a great hairstyle because it is so low-maintenance and it doesn't have to be just edgy. You can have a short haircut and style it so it looks softer.
For men there is not much change. It seems short clean sides and textured top will always be in. However it is great to see more and more men going over to the matt look, rather then the wet greasy look.
What are your favorite products to use: I love the Brunette Goddess Shine Spray. It smells great and it does what it say and leaves your hair looking healthy and shiny.
For men I love the Creamy Molding Wax. It is a more expensive product, but you don't have to use a lot. It has the best hold, doesn't leave a greasy look, and is really easy to wash out. Also I always recommend the men's conditioner. Men still need to condition their hair and the smell is great.
What are you looking forward to: I am looking forward to attending Toni and Guy advanced education classes in September. And I can't wait for fall fashion. I love fall fashion.
